Enter Belize market with a .BZ Domain

No. The registry says so in its own words: anyone in the world can register a .bz domain, and the extension is restricted neither to Belizeans nor to businesses. No documents, no local agent, no residency and no Belize tax number are required. There is no hosting condition either — the registry states that any hosting service can host your .bz name, so your server may sit in any country. Measurement confirms it: .bz names are held through worldwide retail registrars such as GoDaddy, NameCheap, Porkbun and Dynadot, on a first come, first served basis.

One to ten years. The registry's policy sets three limits at once: an initial registration runs 1-10 years, a renewal runs 1-9 years, and the total term may never exceed ten years at any given moment. So you cannot extend a nine-year name by another nine; the ceiling is always ten years from today. The registry's fee schedule lists the one, two, three, five and ten year terms separately. A longer term thins out your renewal calendar and keeps you out of the post-expiry chain entirely.

Three characters for a new registration. The reason is a reserved list rather than a length rule: measured on 15 August 2026, every one- and two-character .bz name queried came back as reserved by the registry. Yet the database still holds short names handed to third parties between 2001 and 2006 — the single letter k.bz dates from 2002, m.bz and w.bz from 2004, and the two-letter zq.bz from 2005. Nothing goes dark on the expiry date. Names renew automatically at the end of the term, and a 45-day auto-renew window then runs, during which the registrar can still delete the name and recover the fee. If payment never arrives, a 30-day redemption period begins, followed by a five-day delete pending stage, after which the name is released. The important part: recovering a name that has reached redemption costs more than an ordinary renewal at most providers, so the renewal should never be left to that stage.

A transfer is a standard operation between registrars, and under the registry's policy it extends the term of the name by one full year. The fee you pay is therefore not lost — it converts directly into time. The gaining registrar pays that one-year amount to the registry, and if the name is deleted within five days of the transfer the amount is credited back. A trademark owner can start an expedited administrative proceeding by filing a complaint with an approved dispute resolution provider; the World Intellectual Property Organization runs a dedicated service page for .BZ, and the case proceeds under the UDRP Rules together with the WIPO Supplemental Rules.
