Article 8.1 of the policy makes two documents mandatory: an NIB (Nomor Induk Berusaha, the Business Identity Number issued through Indonesia's OSS system) and a KTP-el, passport, e.id or other valid identity document. A third is conditional: where the registration relates to a brand, a brand certificate or a power of attorney from the brand holder must be included. Article 8.14 additionally requires a verified email address for every Indonesian domain name.

Only if it holds a business registration in Indonesia. Article 8.1 of the policy allocates the zone to legal entities, businesses and organisations «operating in Indonesia» and proves that through the NIB, which is issued by Indonesia's own system. Without a registered entity in the country, this zone is not the right address for you. The sibling zone that draws no distinction by nationality and asks only for a verified email is .id.

Article 7.1 of the policy: there is no limitation on the number of domain names, and a name is registered for one year or a maximum of ten years. Article 10.1.1 repeats the same range: the validity period runs from one to ten years from the activation date and may be renewed. The policy sets no separate, shorter term for co.id. If this page shows a narrower range, that may differ from the registry's text in force.

Article 10 of the policy defines four stages. The registrar sends notifications regularly through the three months before expiry. Once the term ends, a 45-day auto-renewal period begins; if no delete request is filed during it, the name renews automatically at the normal cost. If a delete request is filed, a 30-day redemption period follows and recovering the name costs a penalty of four times the normal one-year renewal. A final seven-day stage then closes recovery altogether.

Two windows are closed: a name may not be transferred during the first 60 days after activation or its most recent transfer, nor in the last 10 days before the term ends. On top of that comes a layer specific to co.id: articles 7.2.3 and 7.2.4 require the receiving registrant to meet the zone's conditions and the gaining registrar to verify it, while article 7.4.2 requires identity, legality and supporting documents to be uploaded. Article 6.2 of the policy lists four: the registration does not comply with the administrative requirements; the registrant fails to upload the documents or to answer related questions; wrong information or a fake document was provided during registration; or the registry itself rejects it. Article 6.4 adds that a registration may be cancelled where bad intention, infringement of another party's rights or unlawfulness is proven. Article 6.5.2: a cancelled name cannot be re-registered for 30 days from the day of cancellation.

The difference is at the gate. Article 8.13 of the policy opens names directly under .id to persons, individuals, Indonesian citizens, foreigners and legal entities, asking only for a verified email address. Article 8.1 reserves co.id for businesses operating in Indonesia and requires the NIB together with an identity document. The two therefore represent not one pool of names but two registration regimes in the same country, and the choice depends on whether you hold a registered business there.

Through PPND, the non-litigation route PANDI established in 2013 specifically for .id names. It handles two categories: disputes over a registered trademark and disputes over a name. In the trademark category the complainant must prove three elements together: similarity, the absence of rights or legitimate interests on the other side, and bad faith. Articles 6.4.3 and 7.2.6 of the policy make PPND recommendations enforceable as a cancellation or a transfer. PPND reported 59 cases and an average resolution of 46 days on 11 August 2026.
