
Mozambique is a country in the southeastern part of the African continent. The entire eastern border of the country forms the Indian Ocean, including the Mozambique Canal. In the north of Mozambique lies Tanzania, northwest Malawi, Zambia, west and southwest the Republic of South Africa, Swaziland and the east the Hind Ocean. Mozambique, previously known as Portugal's overseas province, gained its independence on 25 June 1975. The area is; 799.380 km2. The Capital is Maputo.
The economy of Mozambique is largely based on agriculture. 5% of cultivated land is cultivated. The main export products are sugar and cotton. Also, tea; dried coconut and sisal (a kind of fiber) is also important. Large coconuts, rice, wheat, corn, peanuts and bananas are mainly grown for domestic consumption. Mozambique is one of the most desperate countries in the world.
