Namibia's economy is largely based on mining, mainly on diamonds. Mining sector constitutes 23.1% of GDP and 50.6% of exports. The production of uranium, which corresponds to approximately 10% of the annual production in the world, is concentrated in the Swakopmund region in the western part of the country.
The processing of commercial fisheries and fish products in Namibia is one of the fastest growing sectors of the Namibian economy in terms of employment, export revenues and contribution to GDP. The clean and cold South Atlantic waters on the shores of the country constitute one of the richest fish beds in the world and offer the potential to produce around 1.5 million metric tons of products annually.
