Enter Algeria market with a .COM.DZ Domain

Article 4 of the charter reserves com.dz for commercial entities, and Article 5 ties the applicant to one of three routes: being established in Algeria, holding legal representation in Algeria, or holding a document that proves ownership rights in the name in Algeria. For commercial applications the usual basis is the Algerian commercial register. Foreign mark owners who meet none of the three have a separate zone: .tm.dz.

Article 9 of the charter allows three options:

• A copy of the commercial register (registre de commerce)
• A copy of a trademark filing with INAPI or WIPO
• A copy of the official founding decree

For a trading company the natural route is the first. When the trade name on the document matches the name you request, the application closes in one round; when it does not, the file comes back and the clock restarts.

Both sit under the same registry and the same rules; the difference is the purpose of the zone. Article 4 of the charter defines com.dz for commercial entities, while .dz is the top level of the scheme and keeps the address shorter. If you want the structure of the address to state commercial standing, com.dz does that; if your mark is protected in Algeria but you have no activity there, .tm.dz is a separate door.

The charter states that a registration is effective within a maximum of two working days after a complete file reaches NIC-DZ. That is a processing time, not a queue: applying early does not shorten it, and a missing document lengthens it. When you plan an Algerian launch, the decisive item is how long it takes to obtain your register extract or trademark certificate. With the documents ready, the address goes live at the end of two working days.

Article 12 of the charter makes a transfer a written act: to change registrar, the holder sends a written document to the registration authority. A verbal agreement, or a request made through a control panel alone, is not enough. Your website and email keep running throughout, as long as you do not change name servers. Article 17 of the charter names three situations: registration data that has gone stale, use of the name for spam or network attacks, and a request from the dispute resolution commission. Suspension means the address stops resolving in practice — website and email go down. The most common cause is administrative rather than technical: a company address or email that changed and was never updated in the record. Keeping contact data current reduces that risk directly.

You can see whether a .com.dz name is registered, and the general state of the record, through WHOIS. A lookup will usually show the status of the name and its registration dates; because of data protection obligations, contact details are published only in limited form.
