There is no instant registration in this zone; the process follows the steps the registry publishes itself. You first ask the registry about the name you want, then read the rules and the registration agreement. Next you download the registration form from the registry's site, complete it and email it back — a separate form is required for each domain name. No. The registry states on its own home page that applicants are not required to have a physical presence in the Bahamas; there is no local address, local agent or trustee requirement. A company based in Türkiye, a sole trader and a private individual all apply on the same terms. When the registry lists registrant categories on its fee schedule it names individuals explicitly, so an application without a company behind it is expressly foreseen. Registrations are made on a first come, first served basis. The registry also reserves the right to refuse an application at its own discretion, and refunds any payment when it does.

The first registration covers two years, and each renewal after that runs for one year. This is set out separately for second-level names in the fees and payments clause of the agreement, and the registry's fee schedule matches it: the initial registration includes two years of maintenance, and renewal is charged per year beginning with the third year. So there is no one-year initial registration on .bs; two years is the floor. The third-level space .com.bs follows a different model, where the first registration covers one year. Payment falls due within thirty days of the invoice date.

Three characters. At the second level the rules hold back one-character names and two-character names for possible future sub-domain use, and certain three-letter names such as com.bs, org.bs, edu.bs and gov.bs are reserved as well, along with every three-letter country code listed in ISO-3166. Measurement bears this out: single-character .bs names return nothing at all in the zone. A couple of two-character names do live in the zone, but they are older registrations protected by the clause stating that rule changes do not affect names approved earlier; they are not an orderable product today. The upper limit is sixty-three characters.

You cannot, from a public endpoint, because no such service exists for this zone. Three independent measurements agree: the root zone record leaves the whois server line blank, the RDAP directory holds no entry for .bs, and none of the usual lookup hostnames for this registry resolve at all. The registry's site carries no web lookup form either. Instead, its registration process page asks you to contact the registry directly about a name. In practice the only thing an outsider can establish is whether a name is defined in DNS; for other extensions you can use the whois search page.

The rules require at least two name servers for the domain, and they must be operating and reachable on the internet at the moment the request is submitted; their addresses are stated in the application. There is no restriction on where those servers sit, in which country or on which network, so you are not obliged to move your DNS to the Bahamas. The registration form makes this concrete by asking for both a hostname and an IP address for the primary and the secondary server. The practical consequence: if you plan to set up DNS after applying, your application will wait — bring the servers up first, then send the form.

The day-by-day grace and redemption chain familiar from generic extensions does not exist here. The agreement says the registration is cancelled if the renewal fee is not paid within the time stated in a second notice or reminder, and the length of that period is not published. On top of that, renewal invoices are sent as a convenience, but requesting the invoice is the registrant's own responsibility. The registry is also under no obligation to keep a name active before payment arrives, so a delay can take your site offline. Track the expiry date yourself and keep the email address held by the registry reachable.

Two operations need to be kept apart. A change of registrar does not exist in this zone: there is no accreditation programme, no EPP infrastructure and no authorisation code, and the agreement defines the registry itself as the registrar. Changing provider therefore runs through a new form sent to the registry rather than a technical transfer. A change of holder is possible under the assignment clause: it is done by strict adherence to the procedure in force at the time and on payment of the applicable transfer fee, and no other method of assignment is permitted.
