The registration rules define applicants as natural persons, legal persons and unincorporated organisations, while the registry expects the second-level suffix chosen to match the nature of the applicant. Because org.cn corresponds to not-for-profit organisations, associations, foundations and professional bodies fit this namespace. A company carrying out commercial activity belongs in .com.cn.

Organisations are asked for a business licence or organisation registration certificate, and the document must confirm the name and number stated in the registration data. The organisation name is expected to be an exact match to the registrant name, so applying with an abbreviated or translated title sends the process back. Preparing the document before you apply keeps the record from waiting at the verification step.

What decides the question is not your intent but the structure your registration document shows. The registry separates the suffixes by intended use: those carrying out commercial activity are directed to com.cn, not-for-profit organisations to org.cn. Clarifying which category your registration document corresponds to before applying is therefore the practical way to avoid a surprise at the verification step.

An unverified name will not resolve even though it appears in the registry record: the site will not open and email on that name will not work. Where registration data is found to be untrue, inaccurate or incomplete, the registration service provider requires correction, and without it the registration may be refused or cancelled. Verification is not a formality to handle later, but the condition for the address going live.

.cn is the short address taken directly at the second level and carries no expectation about the type of applicant. org.cn is one of the category domains under .cn and shows not-for-profit identity in the address itself. If you raise donations or enrol members, that distinction means something to a visitor; holding both and redirecting one to the other is also possible.

Changes to registration data such as name, address, telephone or email must be reported within 30 days. The obligation rests with the registrant and bears directly on the validity of the record: where data is incomplete or untrue, correction is required, and without it the registration may be cancelled. If your organisation's name has changed, update the record with a document showing the new name.

.org.cn names can be moved between providers. A transfer does not remove the verification obligation: your organisation's details must still match the documents under the new record.
