.com.mk Domain: the Commercial Zone of North Macedonia
com.mk is the commercial zone beneath North Macedonia's country extension .mk and one of the six secondary zones named in article 4 of the regulation. It is managed directly by MARnet, the public institution that also administers .mk and the Cyrillic .мкд. This can be measured: the registry's own WHOIS shows com.mk as an object held by MARnet itself, while the names beneath it appear under other accredited registrars.
The eligibility rule is article 9, and it ties the requirement to status rather than to territory: the right to register under com.mk belongs to commercial companies, natural persons registered for independent activity, persons holding public authorisations, chambers, cooperatives, financial organisations, and legal and natural persons registered to carry out economic activity. In short, the zone asks you to be a registered business. Direct .mk is the level where the route for foreign companies is spelled out by name.
Documents are attached to the application: a certified photocopy of the entry in the relevant register, or equivalent proof of the right to carry out the activity. Registration runs from one to ten years; if it is not renewed, a 60-day protective period follows and deletion from the Register comes on day 120. A registrar change works through an EPP code, delivered within three days. Check whether your preferred name is free on the domain name search page.

.com.mk Domain Lifecycle
What happens day by day after it expires
Day 0 is the domain's expiry dateIn short: for .com.mk the post-expiry timeline is set by the registry, so it differs from one extension to the next. The diagram below shows the windows that actually apply to .com.mk, day by day. One thing never changes, whichever extension you hold: renewing before the expiry date is always the cheapest and safest route.
Domain Is Available (Available)
A .com.mk address at this stage has not been taken yet, and it goes to whoever registers first. Check the name you have in mind — if it is free, it can be yours within minutes.
Domain Is Active (Active Period)
Once registration is complete, the domain is registered to you for the term you selected. You can renew at any point before it expires to keep it active, or switch on auto-renewal so you never have to watch the date.
Redemption Period (Redemption Period)
The domain is not released the moment it expires — during this window it is still yours and can be recovered. Some extensions charge an extra restore fee at this stage, so renewing before expiry is always the cheaper route.
Domain Is Available Again
Once deletion completes, the domain leaves the system and anyone can register it — popular names are often taken the same minute by someone watching. Keep auto-renewal on so a name you care about never gets this far.

Frequently Asked Questions About .com.mk Domains
The questions people actually ask before registering — answered plainly.
-
Article 9 of the regulation lists the eligible holders for com.mk as categories — commercial companies, natural persons registered for independent activity, holders of public authorisations, chambers, cooperatives, financial organisations, and legal and natural persons registered to carry out economic activity — and imposes no domestic registration requirement. What is asked is that you be a registered business. The article that spells out by name how a foreign company is identified is article 5, which governs direct .mk.
-
The difference lies in the eligibility article. Article 5 says «all legal entities» for direct .mk and adds that entities registered abroad are identified through their own country's registers, while requiring residence or stay in the country from natural persons. Article 9 instead reserves com.mk for registered businesses and admits a natural person only in a registered business capacity. In short, .mk is open to a broader set of applicants; com.mk asks for commercial status.
-
Article 17 paragraph 8 lists them: a certified photocopy of the act by which entry was made in the relevant statutory register, or equivalent proof of the acquired right to carry out the activity; approval from a competent authority where the regulation requires it; and, for a natural person applicant, inspection of an identity document or electronic identification. The same article also requires at least two name servers with correctly configured records. Article 33 provides that the domain may be deleted if the documents prove inauthentic.
-
Not immediately. Article 18 builds a three-step chain: if the registration is not renewed by its expiry date, the domain enters a 60-day protective period in which its data cannot be changed; if it is not renewed within those 60 days, the domain is withdrawn from the primary zone and the address stops resolving; and once 120 days have passed since entry into the protective period, it is deleted from the Register and becomes free again. The total recovery window is therefore about four months.
-
In court. Article 37 of the regulation directs the parties to resolve disputes arising from domain registration before the competent court, and article 32 paragraph 4 states that MARnet cannot be a party to such disputes — so there is no UDRP-style administrative panel. MARnet does hold a protective power, however: article 20 allows it to deactivate a domain temporarily where there is serious suspicion that the domain was registered contrary to the regulation or infringes the rights of others.
