When article 5 of the regulation lists who may register under the primary .mk domain, it says «all legal entities» and adds that entities registered outside the territory of the country must be properly identified through the national business registers of the state where they are registered. What is asked of you is therefore not a presence in the country but identifiability in your own commercial register. For natural persons the position differs: the same article requires residence or stay in North Macedonia.

Article 17 paragraph 8 lists them by type of applicant: a certified photocopy of the act by which entry was made in the relevant statutory register, or equivalent legal proof of the acquired right to carry out the activity; approval from a competent authority where the regulation requires it; and, for a natural person, inspection of an identity document or electronic identification under the applicable law. Article 33 adds that if the documents later prove inauthentic, the domain may be deleted after prior notice.

Article 18 paragraph 2 keeps the range wide: domains are registered for one to ten years, with the right of extension at the end of the term. The range is continuous, so intermediate years are not excluded. Paragraph 1 of the same article adds another convenience: the number of domains a single registrant may register is unlimited. Choosing a long term both reduces renewal admin and keeps you out of the post-expiry chain described below.

Article 11 paragraph 2 states that a name consists of at least 2 and at most 63 characters, using letters of the English alphabet, the digits 0 to 9 and the hyphen. The first and last character may not be a hyphen, and two consecutive hyphens are not allowed. Paragraph 3 then grants an exception that matters to trademark owners: where a protected trademark, protected mark, name or brand is involved, the name may consist of as little as one character.

Article 18 builds a three-step chain. If the registration is not renewed by its expiry date, the domain enters a 60-day protective period during which no changes may be made to its data. If it is not renewed within those 60 days, the domain is withdrawn from the primary zone, so the address stops resolving. Once 120 days have passed since entry into the protective period, the domain is deleted from the Register and becomes free again. The first 60 days it is frozen; the next 60 it is offline but still recoverable.

Article 27 builds the operation around an EPP code. During the registration term the registrant may ask to change registrar; to do so, they request an EPP code from the registrar where the name is held, that registrar must deliver it within three days, and the new registrar uses the code to carry out the automatic transfer.
