WHAT IS A .COM.PL DOMAIN

.com.pl Domain: Poland's Commercial Namespace

.com.pl is one of the functional zones NASK runs under Poland's country extension .pl; it was created as a zone object in the registry on 25 March 2003 and is DNSSEC-signed. The rules are not separate: the same registration terms, the same life cycle and the same dispute framework apply as for .pl. The age of the namespace shows up in measurement — test.com.pl was registered on 6 February 1997 and shop.com.pl on 24 September 1998.

Despite the commercial connotation, the regulations impose no requirement to be a company or to trade; no Polish address, representative or document is asked for either. At the end of 2025 NASK's functional zones together held 361,515 active names, 14.12% of the registry. When a short direct .pl name is gone, the com.pl pool is a real alternative — compare your candidate on the domain search page.

Day 0 is the domain's expiry date

In short: for .com.pl the post-expiry timeline is set by the registry, so it differs from one extension to the next. The diagram below shows the windows that actually apply to .com.pl, day by day. One thing never changes, whichever extension you hold: renewing before the expiry date is always the cheapest and safest route.

Domain Is Available (Available)

Open-ended

A .com.pl address at this stage has not been taken yet, and it goes to whoever registers first. Check the name you have in mind — if it is free, it can be yours within minutes.

Domain Is Active (Active Period)

1 - 10 years

Once registration is complete, the domain is registered to you for the term you selected. You can renew at any point before it expires to keep it active, or switch on auto-renewal so you never have to watch the date.

Pending Delete Period (Pending Delete Period)

Day 0 – 5

If the redemption window is missed too, the domain enters the final stage and waits to be deleted. Renewal and recovery are no longer possible here; when the period ends the registration is removed for good.

Domain Is Available Again

After day 5

Once deletion completes, the domain leaves the system and anyone can register it — popular names are often taken the same minute by someone watching. Keep auto-renewal on so a name you care about never gets this far.

Frequently Asked Questions About .com.pl Domains

The questions people actually ask before registering — answered plainly.

  • No. NASK's regulations contain no separate eligibility clause for the functional zones; the holder is defined only as the party to the agreement, and no Polish company, address, representative or document is required. Measurement bears this out: com.pl names can be managed through foreign registrars — the single-character a.com.pl has been registered since 2005 and sits with a French registrar.

  • The difference is not in the rules but in the pool of names. Both live in the NASK registry, share the same registration terms, the same expiry chain and the same dispute framework, and both are DNSSEC-signed. The distinction is practical: with more than 2.1 million names, the direct .pl space is far more crowded, so short and generic names ran out there long ago. In com.pl a search can still succeed.

  • The chain is the same as for .pl. Once the paid billing period ends the name stays in that state for up to 30 days and can be renewed; when the agreement terminates it remains in the registry for another 5 days and is then released for registration. If you are waiting for a specific name to drop, NASK's option service sells a three-year priority right, and the option is visible in the WHOIS record.

  • Yes, and this was measured. NASK supports IDN in the functional zones too, with names stored in the "xn--" ASCII form: the name spelled "gdańsk" has been registered under com.pl since 4 March 2007 and the one spelled "wrocław" since 12 August 2008. The only restriction is that a single name may use just one character set, so Polish diacritics cannot be mixed with letters from another alphabet.

  • Transfers run on the authinfo code. The registry's rule is unambiguous: the registrar must release the code without undue delay and may not attach any condition, payment included. If it refuses, you file a written complaint with NASK, which asks for an explanation and in exceptional cases releases the code itself. The full sequence is described on our domain transfer page.
