Enter the Jordan market with a .JO Domain

Yes. The registry's zone table opens second-level .jo to every category, and among those categories «foreign companies not operating in the Kingdom» is named explicitly. Two things are required in return: a trademark registration matching the name to be registered, and an authorisation on company letterhead, signed and stamped by the authorised signatory, empowering someone to manage the company's domains in the Kingdom. The authorised person must be located in Jordan.

The document depends on which category the applicant falls into; the registry sets out a primary document, an alternative document, the issuing authority and a verification key for each of 24 categories. For companies in Jordan the primary document is the company registration certificate; for sole proprietorships the commercial register record; for citizens the civil status ID. For companies abroad, a global trademark certificate plus an authorisation is required. Originals are not needed, electronic copies suffice.

The registry writes that the «domain name user» changes in only two situations: when the name rests on a trademark or trade name and ownership of that right is evidenced, and when an entity changes its name while its national number stays the same. Second-level .jo is open to every category in the zone table; individuals, associations, schools and companies can all sit in the same zone. com.jo falls under the «commercial» heading and is limited to four applicant types. The Registration Policy adds a prohibition: if the second level does not match the nature of the registrant's business, the application is rejected. Document, term and renewal rules are identical in both zones.
