Enter the Liberia market with a .COM.LR Domain

Not with a foreign company alone. The registration desk's instructions close the door in two sentences: registrations must come from organisations with a real presence in the country, the organisation must be in Liberia and be the end user of the name, and the administrative contact must be both in Liberia and within the organisation making the registration. In practice you therefore need an operating presence there and a contact person working locally.

This space explicitly does not want that. The application instructions list registration for «brand, vanity, placemark, trademark, service mark» purposes as not appropriate and refer applicants to the trademark office for trademark protection. The same clause sets a limit of one registration per organisation. What is expected instead is that the name will be used regularly on the internet by an organisation in Liberia — and the form asks you to describe that intent.

Registration is done with a plain-text form e-mailed to the registration desk; because scripts process it, the layout, formatting and field order must not be changed. The form asks for the organisation's name and address, a mandatory description of the organisation and the domain, administrative and technical contact details, and the names and IP addresses of the name servers. On timing the desk states its own rule: allow at least ten working days.

The requirement rests on RFC 2182 and has two layers: a domain needs at least two independent name servers, and those servers must sit in physically separate locations on completely separate international backbone providers. The registration desk names this as one of the two most common causes of rejection. If you are requesting delegation, you must also verify that the servers are running and serving correct data before you send the application.

No, and that was measured three ways. The extension's IANA record contains neither a WHOIS nor an RDAP line, and the server names one might guess do not resolve in DNS. The consequence cuts both ways: your registrant details are published nowhere, but neither is there a public source for third parties wanting to verify who holds a .com.lr name. Your registration data stays in the registration desk's own records.

The registration desk publishes no term, renewal calendar or expiry regime, and the application form has no field for a registration period. Because there is no queryable register, the term cannot be measured from outside either. That is why no number of years appears on this page: the applicable term and renewal conditions are settled at order time. If you are planning a long-lived project, put the renewal responsibility in your own calendar from the start.

There is no separate arbitration procedure, and the text says so plainly: registering a domain name confers no legal rights to that name, and disputes between parties are settled by ordinary legal means. So do not expect a UDRP-style administrative process; the route runs straight to the courts. The same text also takes an undertaking from the applicant to indemnify the registration desk against costs arising from trademark and trade-name litigation.

The application form sets out the structure as a table: commercial organisations register under .com.lr, schools granting baccalaureate degrees under .edu.lr, government entities under .gov.lr, not-for-profit organisations under .org.lr, and network infrastructure such as routers under .net.lr. Atak Domain offers only .com.lr for Liberia; the other categories depend on their own eligibility purposes, and for a commercial project .com.lr is the right address.
