The Economy of Mauritania
87% of the Mauritanian population live in agriculture, livestock and fisheries. Millet and sorgrum are the most important products. Agriculture is carried out in the south especially in the Segenal River Valley. Palm, potato, corn, rice and rubber are other products. Also livestock and fishing is very important.
With the development of mineral resources, per capita income began to be among the West African countries. Iron is the most important one. Also other important minerals are tungus, petroleum, uranium, phosphate, fypsum and copper.
