Enter Mayotte market with a .YT Domain

Not in your own name. Article 5.1 of the Naming Policy opens registration only to natural persons residing, and legal persons established, in an EU member state or in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland; Turkey sits outside that area. Article 5.2 applies the same test to the administrative contact, so both the holder and the contact must qualify. With a European entity you can apply directly; without one, an eligible party has to appear in both roles, and the current price of that service is shown during ordering.

No, and that is what separates this extension from most island TLDs. The policy asks for no address, branch or local representative in Mayotte; it ties the requirement to a continent instead. A company in mainland France, Germany or Switzerland can therefore hold a .yt name directly. The extension's link to Mayotte comes from the name itself, not from a legal residence test. If you want to build a brand aimed at the island market, the extension is reachable — provided you have a legal entity inside the eligibility area.

Not at registration. Article 3.2 gives the reason: the French Post and Electronic Communications Code does not empower Afnic to check documents such as a trade register extract or a trademark receipt. The requirement is still real. Afnic can open a verification on its own initiative or after a report; if it escalates to substantiation, your portfolio is suspended for up to 7 days, then blocked for up to 30, and deleted if no evidence follows. When substantiation starts at registration, what gets suspended is publication of the name in the DNS.

One to ten. Article 2.8 sets the validity period at one to ten years from registration and leaves the choice to the holder and the registrar; intermediate terms are not excluded. The last paragraph of the same article inverts the usual renewal logic: renewal is implied, so a name does not lapse by itself and drops only when the registrar actively sends a deletion request. That design noticeably reduces the risk of losing a name to a missed renewal date.

A change of registrar is covered by Article 6.6: the holder freely picks a new registrar, which handles the formalities and must ensure ownership is untouched. A change of holder is covered by Article 6.4 and is heavier: registrars must obtain the consent of both parties beforehand, and in insolvency only the appointed administrator can give it. Article 8.4 provides that, at the request of the CNIL and under the GDPR, names registered by a natural person are covered by default by restricted publication: no personal data appears in whois, only technical details remain, and you can still be reached by email without your contact details being disclosed.
