Article 4.1 of the Domain Name Charter lists six eligible categories and all six are tied to the Principality: legal entities with a registered office, principal place of business or administrative office in Monaco; Monaco's diplomatic missions abroad; Monegasque associations, bodies and foundations; Monegasque holders of trademarks registered or protected in Monaco; natural persons in an authorised independent activity; and Monaco's public bodies.

Article 5.9 states that «a domain name is valid for a period of one (1) year as from its registration» and that, unless a deletion request reaches the registrar before the end of the period, validity renews automatically for a further year subject to payment of the relevant tax. Article 6.2 repeats the rule under the renewal heading. Multi-year registration is not offered here, and renewal is tacit — you need not request it separately.

In court. Article 7.2 rules the registry out explicitly: «Any dispute or challenge arising as to the ownership or use of a domain name shall be dealt with between the parties concerned. NIC Monaco shall under no circumstances be party to any legal proceedings relating to the domain names for which it is responsible.» The registry cannot order interim measures either and applies only what a court decision sets out. Where the parties settle amicably, changes are made only with the consent of both.
