com.om Domain: Oman's Zone for Registered Businesses
com.om is the Sultanate of Oman's zone for commercial entities, and it has no separate operator: it is run by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) like the rest of the namespace. Article 10 of the Domain Names Regulation defines com.om and co.om in a single sentence with a single condition — the applicant must be a licensed commercial establishment or company. The difference between the two zones is therefore not in the rules but in which names are still free.
The licence does not have to be Omani. The «rules for registering domain names from outside the Sultanate» of 30 December 2025 name com.om explicitly and open it to foreign companies; the test is that your company record can be verified online in your country's commercial register, or that you hold a global trademark filed in Oman or with WIPO. A Turkish company can apply on its own trade registry record. Personal use has its own separate zone, me.om.
The regulation also protects the buyer. Article 35 requires the Authority's prior approval before a registrar charges operating fees above 100% of the registration or renewal fee, and article 22 gives a losing registrar no right to object and no right to charge anything when a registrant moves away. Check the name you want on the domain search page.

The stages in order, from registration to releaseDomain Is Available (Available)
A .com.om address at this stage has not been taken yet, and it goes to whoever registers first. Check the name you have in mind — if it is free, it can be yours within minutes.
Domain Is Active (Active Period)
Once registration is complete the domain is yours for the term you chose. You can renew at any point before expiry to keep it uninterrupted, or switch on auto-renewal so you never have to watch the date.
Redemption Period (Redemption Period)
The domain is not released the moment it expires — during this window it is still yours and can be recovered. Some extensions charge an extra restore fee at this stage, so renewing before expiry is always the cheaper route.
Pending Delete Period (Pending Delete Period)
If the redemption window is missed too, the domain enters the final stage and waits to be deleted. Renewal and recovery are no longer possible here; when the period ends the registration is removed for good.
Domain Is Available Again
Once deletion completes, the domain leaves the system and anyone can register it — popular names are often taken the same minute by someone watching. Keep auto-renewal on so a name you care about never gets this far.

Frequently Asked Questions About .com.om Domains
The questions people actually ask before registering — answered plainly.
-
Yes. The TRA's «rules for registering domain names from outside the Sultanate» of 30 December 2025 name com.om explicitly and open it to institutions and companies based outside Oman. You must meet one of two tests: your official registration data must be viewable in Arabic or English in your country's commercial-register search service, or you must hold a global trademark filed with Oman's Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion or with WIPO. No Omani company and no local representative are required.
-
Four items: a valid copy of the commercial register in your country of incorporation, a valid trademark certificate if you own one, the electronic link to the government body that provides the commercial-register search service, and supporting legal documents proving the record is valid. No apostille or consular legalisation is asked for. The third item is the critical one: your registrar verifies you through that link and must complete the check within three days of the application.
-
No. Article 10 of the regulation reserves com.om and co.om for licensed commercial establishments and companies. Individuals have their own zone: article 16 opens me.om to Omanis and to residents of Oman. An applicant without commercial status who still wants a presence in the Omani namespace can also look at second-level .om, because article 8 asks for no commercial status there.
-
Article 19 applies the same limit to every zone: the term is no less than one year and no more than five, renewable on the registrant's request, and the accredited registrar must process a renewal within 24 hours. The fee schedule puts com.om in the same annual line item as second-level om., so at registry level there is no price difference between the two zones.
-
Yes, through a two-step window. Under article 20, if the term lapses without renewal the Authority may grant up to 30 extra days; if that passes too, the name is suspended for up to another 30 days, and only when that period ends does the registration lapse. During suspension the name does not work, so your site and email stop. Keeping the expiry date in your own calendar is safer than relying on the recovery window.
-
Yes. Article 22 governs registrar changes: you submit a request containing your password, the losing registrar must decide within three days, may not object, and may not charge any fee for it. Owner changes are covered separately in article 21, which asks for the password and the reasons, an acceptance letter from the new holder, and the transfer fee. You can start on the domain transfer page.
-
No. Neither the Domain Names Regulation nor the December 2025 rules say anything about hosting location, so your servers can sit in any country. The rules are explicit on one related point, though: you must consent to your registration data being published in WHOIS. You can look up any registrant record on the whois search page.
