Enter the Romania market with a .ORG.RO Domain

The eligibility rule is shared across the whole .ro tree: any legal or natural person may register, regardless of the country they are in. There is no residency requirement in Romania, no local address, no local contact person and no trustee arrangement. The zone's own restriction concerns purpose rather than nationality: the rules attach .org.ro to non-profit organisations, social organisations and civil associations.

In RoTLD's registration rules a document requirement is attached to one zone only: .tm.ro, reserved for registered trade marks. For .org.ro the rules set out an intended use and nothing more; statutes, an entry in a register of associations or a tax-exemption certificate are not listed as proof of that use. What registration asks for is an accurate and complete application form, and RoTLD reserves the right to seek confirmation that the information given is genuine.

Yes. RoTLD's rules page lists the zone by name, and the registry's WHOIS service shows the org.ro label with the registrar field reading «Registru .ro», protected by delete, transfer and update locks — the technical signature of a zone the registry operates itself. For contrast, .co.ro appears in the same WHOIS under a commercial registrar and without those locks.

The annual registration and maintenance system RoTLD introduced on 1 March 2018 covers the whole .ro tree, so .org.ro names are registered or renewed for a minimum of one year and a maximum of ten. Before that date a one-off payment left names running effectively without end; since most association and foundation names date from that period, the expiry date is the first thing to check on an inherited name.

A name whose annual maintenance fee goes unpaid enters the state «pendingDelete». The name is not lost at that point, but it stops working: the website and mail effectively go dark — for an organisation running a donation page or member mailings, this is where the consequence shows up first. The registry deletes the name automatically after 90 days. Renewal remains possible within that window, so the 90 days act as a recovery period.

The rule is the same across the .ro tree: a name may run to 63 characters excluding the suffix; the allowed characters are a-z, A-Z, 0-9 and the hyphen; and a name may neither begin nor end with a hyphen. Romanian diacritics (ă, â, î, ş, ţ) have also been usable since 2 June 2015. If your organisation's name is written in Romanian, remember that the forms with and without diacritics are separate names.

The procedure is shared across the .ro tree, and RoTLD does not decide disputes itself. They go to two accredited providers: WIPO and Forum. The procedure follows the UDRP framework and requires the complainant's prior right, the holder's lack of rights or legitimate interests and the bad-faith element to be shown together. Where the complaint succeeds, the right of use passes to the complainant after 10 business days.

Registry, eligibility rule, term and dispute procedure are identical. The difference lies in intended use: .ro is unrestricted, while the rules attach .org.ro to non-profit activity. For commercial activity the zone the rules point to is .com.ro. All three are records of the same registry and renew on the same calendar.
