.org.ru Domain: a Third-Level Address in Russia
.org.ru is not a top-level domain. The IANA root zone database lists only .ru and .рф for Russia; org.ru is a domain name registered at the second level inside .RU, and the names taken here open beneath it at the third level. This is a measured fact: the registry's WHOIS service returns for ORG.RU a creation date of 10 July 1997, the registrar RU-CENTER-RU, the state «REGISTERED, DELEGATED, VERIFIED» and a paid-till date of 31 July 2027 — the same day as the sibling zones net.ru and pp.ru, seconds apart.
The zone is in practice operated by the Regional Network Information Center (RU-CENTER), and two measurements confirm it. First: org.ru's own record shows RU-CENTER-RU as the registrar, and its administrative contact field points directly to that operator's own lookup page. Second: the authoritative lookup server for third-level names is a different one — the Coordination Center's server answers «no entries found» for such names, while RU-CENTER's server returns a full record and signs its answer with its own source.
The practical consequence is this: the Coordination Center's «Rules of registration of domain names in .RU and .РФ» expressly limits its scope to second-level names. Those rules govern org.ru itself; the eligibility condition, term, renewal calendar and dispute route for names beneath org.ru follow the terms of the organisation operating the zone and cannot be read from the texts published for .ru. The sibling zones .net.ru and .com.ru have the same structure.

.org.ru Domain Lifecycle
What happens day by day after it expires
Day 0 is the domain's expiry dateIn short: for .org.ru the post-expiry timeline is set by the registry, so it differs from one extension to the next. The diagram below shows the windows that actually apply to .org.ru, day by day. One thing never changes, whichever extension you hold: renewing before the expiry date is always the cheapest and safest route.
Domain Is Available (Available)
A .org.ru address at this stage has not been taken yet, and it goes to whoever registers first. Check the name you have in mind — if it is free, it can be yours within minutes.
Domain Is Active (Active Period)
Once registration is complete, the domain is registered to you for the term you selected. You can renew at any point before it expires to keep it active, or switch on auto-renewal so you never have to watch the date.
Domain Is Available Again
Once deletion completes, the domain leaves the system and anyone can register it — popular names are often taken the same minute by someone watching. Keep auto-renewal on so a name you care about never gets this far.

Frequently Asked Questions About .org.ru Domains
The questions people actually ask before registering — answered plainly.
-
No. The IANA root zone database lists only .ru and .рф for Russia. org.ru is a domain name registered at the second level inside .RU; the name you take here opens beneath it at the third level. The registry's WHOIS service confirms it: the ORG.RU record carries a creation date of 10 July 1997, the registrar RU-CENTER-RU and a paid-till date of 31 July 2027. The sibling zones net.ru and pp.ru were created the same day, seconds apart.
-
We cannot give a verified answer to that. The registration terms of the organisation operating the zone could not be read from a primary source — its site returns a browser loader rather than text to automated requests. The Coordination Center's rules do not answer it either, because they limit their own scope to second-level names. For that reason nothing here says «only associations may register» or «anyone may register». Confirm the eligibility and document requirements with your registrar before ordering.
-
The Regional Network Information Center, known as RU-CENTER. Two measurements confirm it. First: org.ru's own record shows RU-CENTER-RU as the registrar, and its administrative contact field points directly to that operator's lookup page. Second: only RU-CENTER's lookup server knows the third-level names, and it signs its answer with its own source; the Coordination Center's server replies «no entries found» for the same names.
-
Only to the zone itself. The «Rules of registration of domain names in .RU and .РФ» expressly limits its scope to second-level names. org.ru is a second-level name, so those rules apply to org.ru itself. The term, renewal calendar, dispute route and privacy regime of third-level names beneath org.ru follow the terms of the organisation that operates the zone and cannot be read from the texts published for .ru.
-
No, because the zone is not signed. A measurement on 14 August 2026 found neither DS records in the parent zone nor DNSKEY records in the zone for org.ru; the same result came back for the sibling zones net.ru and pp.ru. The parent zone .ru, by contrast, is signed — DS records in the root, DNSKEY records in the zone. So a name taken under .org.ru cannot be attached to the DNSSEC chain. If validated DNS matters, consider .ru directly.
-
The announcement does not say so explicitly. The Technical Centre's notice states that the «Gosuslugi» identity verification becoming mandatory on 1 September 2026 applies to the .ru, .рф and .su zones; there is no separate statement on how it applies to third-level zones. One indirect effect is certain: org.ru is itself a second-level .ru name, and that name is subject to the requirement. For your own registration you will need confirmation from your registrar.
-
Structurally there is none. Both are domain names registered at the second level inside .RU, and the measurement found both created on 10 July 1997, seconds apart, supported by the same registrar and carrying the same paid-till date. They share the same set of name servers, and neither is signed with DNSSEC. The only difference is the signal carried in the label: «org» suggests an organisation, while «net» in .net.ru suggests technical and infrastructure use.
