WHAT IS A .TOYS DOMAIN

.toys Domain: A Plain Address for Selling Toys

The .toys extension entered the root on 3 April 2014; its ICANN agreement is dated 6 March 2014 and the contracting party is Binky Moon, LLC. Toy makers and shops, collectible dealers, educational toy brands and small handmade workshops all take names here. No eligibility condition applies, so a manufacturing permit, import licence or chamber registration is never requested.

One clause of the agreement touches this business directly. Registrars must place in the registration agreement a provision binding holders to comply with applicable law, including consumer protection, and on a site selling products for children that clause stops being abstract. Measured on 14 August 2026, 5,365 of 7,311 registrations were live. Compare name candidates on the .toys domain search page.

Compliance for children's products is written into the agreement

The public interest section of the agreement requires registrars to bind holders to consumer protection, data collection and privacy rules. In toy retail that means age warnings, safety markings and return terms have to be visible on the page. The extension performs no check of its own; the duty arises from the product you sell and does not change with the domain you choose.

.toys Domain Lifecycle

Active registration term 1 - 10 years You choose it at registration
Renewal window 20 days After expiry, with a late renewal fee
Redemption period 30 days After deletion, with a restore fee
Last day to act Day 50 After this day there is no way back

What happens day by day after it expires

Day 0 is the domain's expiry date

In short: your .toys domain is put on Client Hold on its expiry date, so the site and e-mail stop that same day. You can still renew during the first 20 days, but from this point a late renewal fee is added on top of the renewal price. On day 20 the registration is deleted and until day 50 only a paid restore brings it back. Nothing at all can be done in the 5 days that follow, and on day 55 the name is open to anyone. There is exactly one way never to enter this chain: keep auto-renewal on.

What happens day by day after it expires Lifecycle diagram for .toys, left to right: the name starts out available; once registered, the site and e-mail work; day 0 is the expiry date and the domain goes on Client Hold; for the first 20 days renewal at the normal price stays open; on day 20 the registration is deleted and a 30-day redemption period begins; on day 50 redemption closes and a 5-day pending delete window starts; on day 55 the name is open to anyone again. The site and e-mail stay down from day 0 through day 55. Domain Is Available (Available)

Open-ended

A .toys address at this stage has not been taken yet, and it goes to whoever registers first. Check the name you have in mind — if it is free, it can be yours within minutes.

Domain Is Active (Active Period)

1 - 10 years

Once registration is complete, the domain is registered to you for the term you selected. You can renew at any point before it expires to keep it active, or switch on auto-renewal so you never have to watch the date.

Renewal Window (Client Hold)

Day 0 – 20

On its expiry date your .toys domain is put on Client Hold: the site and e-mail go down that day, but the registration is still yours. A single renewal within these first 20 days brings everything back exactly as it was — nothing is lost. The only difference is that a $11.12 late renewal fee is now added to the renewal price; renewing before the expiry date avoids that fee entirely.

Redemption Period (Redemption / RGP)

Day 20 – 50

On day 20 the registration is deleted and the 30-day redemption period that ICANN requires of every gTLD registry begins. The name is not released to anyone during this time; only you can take it back, by paying the restore fee, until day 50. That fee is far higher than a renewal — renewing on time is always the cheaper route.

Pending Delete (Pending Delete)

Day 50 – 55

Once the redemption window closes too, the domain enters its final 5 days and there is no way back. Neither renewal nor restore works here; nobody — your registrar included — can return the name to you. The registry uses this window as the last hold before the name goes back into the pool.

Open to Anyone Again (Released)

After day 55

On day 55 the name .toys returns to the pool and anyone can register it. Sought-after names are often gone within seconds, and there is no guaranteed way to get one back. Yet staying out of this timeline is entirely in your hands: leave auto-renewal on and the expiry date will never catch you off guard.

The timeline above is the schedule Atak Domain applies and publishes. The ICANN chart you will find elsewhere shows a renewal window of up to 45 days after expiry; ICANN's policy on expired registrations (section 2.2.1) lets registrars delete an expired domain at any time, provided they disclose their policy in advance. We apply that window as 20 days and publish it here in plain sight. Full text of the policy: ICANN Expired Registration Recovery Policy

Frequently Asked Questions About .toys Domains

The questions people actually ask before registering — answered plainly.

  • The registry requests no document at all. Because the agreement treats the string as a dictionary term, registration stays open to everyone, and a handmade workshop takes a name on the same terms as a large importer. Product safety and consumer law in the country where you sell continue to apply, though. A domain grants no authority; the duty arises from the product you sell.

  • It reaches you as a compliance undertaking inside your registration agreement. Registrars must bind holders to consumer protection, data collection and privacy rules. In practice that means showing age guidance and safety markings on the product page, stating return terms plainly, and taking extra care whenever data is collected from children rather than from their parents.

  • The zone is small: on 14 August 2026 it held 7,311 registrations with 5,365 live. At that size, combinations of brand name, product category and age group leave a wide field. Narrow categories such as wooden, educational or collectible still work well. Test several ideas at the same time with bulk domain name search.

  • Brand name first, category second. Keep the address short and understandable the first time it is spoken, because toy shopping spreads by recommendation. Do not bury an age group in the address, since children grow, your range shifts and the address starts to look dated. Build category pages as subdirectories and gather everything under one root.

  • A certificate and a secure payment flow. A page collecting card details or addresses should not go live without an encrypted connection, because the browser warning raises cart abandonment directly. Fast loading of product images also moves conversion, so choose the hosting early rather than after launch. Compare certificate options on the SSL certificate page.
