Enter Uzbekistan market with a .COM.UZ Domain

Two conditions work together. On the zone side, the registry sets .com.uz aside for commercial organisations; the counterpart for individuals is pp.uz. On the eligibility side, the regulation states across the whole .uz tree that any legal person may register whatever their nationality and wherever they are located. There is therefore no residency requirement in Uzbekistan, no local address, no local contact and no trustee arrangement; what is asked is that you are a commercial organisation.

No. The eligibility article of the regulation imposes no condition as to nationality or location, and it draws no distinction between zones. A company incorporated abroad goes through the same process as one in Tashkent. The zone's restriction is institutional rather than geographic: the registrant is expected to be a commercial organisation. If you are registering as a natural person, the zone the registry sets aside for that is pp.uz.

The regulation sets no general document requirement. What is asked for is the standard application form, filled in completely and accurately; organisations add bank details and administrative, technical and billing contacts. The registrar keeps the right to seek confirmation that the information given is genuine, but that is not a paperwork condition applied up front. The process is about supplying correct information rather than assembling files.

According to the registry's own information page, the term of registration and re-registration runs from one year to ten years. The regulation leaves the term to the contract between the registrar and the domain administrator and fixes only the floor: it may not be less than one year. In a zone where the period after expiry is very short, a longer term is the simplest way to reduce renewal risk.

After registration ends the name stays with its current administrator for only 7 working days, and once that additional period closes it becomes available to other applicants. Since that window runs 30 to 90 days in many country extensions, the difference matters: if a renewal is missed on a commercial address, you have a few working days to recover it, not weeks. Plan the renewal at least two weeks before the expiry date.

None in the rules. The registry's special domain names page uses word-for-word the same definition for both zones: for commercial organisations. Both opened on 22 December 2004 and are delegated to the same nameservers. The choice therefore rests on the name and its availability rather than on a comparison of rules: if the name you want is taken on the com.uz side, it may still be free on the .co.uz side.

The regulation points first to negotiation; a dispute that cannot be settled that way goes to court. The procedure is the same across the .uz tree, and the zone has no UDRP-style arbitration. In practice that means a trade mark claim proceeds through the judicial route rather than through an expedited administrative one. If trade mark protection is decisive for you, registering the name early is a more effective safeguard here than objecting later.
