.co.uz Domain: Uzbekistan's Short Commercial Zone
.co.uz is one of the official zones beneath .uz, the country extension of Uzbekistan, and is listed by name on the registry's own «special domain names» page. The parent zone is administered from Tashkent by UZINFOCOM, the single integrator for state information systems. The registry defines the zone in one line: «Для коммерческих организаций» — for commercial organisations. It has been in operation since 22 December 2004 and shows as active in the registry's own WHOIS.
It is worth being straightforward here: in the rules there is no difference at all between .co.uz and .com.uz. The registry uses word-for-word the same definition for both, both opened on the same day, and both are delegated to the same nameservers. The one real difference is two characters — and what follows from it is the pool of names: a name taken on com.uz may still be free on co.uz, and the «co» form shortens the address by one notch.
The eligibility rule is shared too: across the whole .uz tree the regulation says any legal person may register, whatever their nationality and wherever they are located, with pp.uz as the counterpart for individuals. Choosing .co.uz is therefore a choice of name, not a choice of rules. To see your candidate in both zones at once, query them side by side with domain search.

Frequently Asked Questions About .co.uz Domains
The questions people actually ask before registering — answered plainly.
-
Two conditions work together. On the zone side, the registry sets .co.uz aside for commercial organisations; the counterpart for individuals is pp.uz. On the eligibility side, the regulation states across the whole .uz tree that any legal person may register whatever their nationality and wherever they are located. There is therefore no residency requirement in Uzbekistan, no local address, no local contact and no trustee arrangement; what is asked is that you are a commercial organisation.
-
It is an official zone. The registry's own «special domain names» page lists co.uz by name and states its definition, and the registry's WHOIS shows the zone object with an opening date of 22 December 2004 and status ACTIVE, on the same nameservers as its sibling com.uz. That is a different situation from some «co» namespaces carrying a similar name but absent from their registry's list — co.ro in Romania, for instance.
-
There is none in the rules. The registry's special domain names page uses word-for-word the same definition for both zones: for commercial organisations. Both opened on 22 December 2004 and are delegated to the same nameservers. The real difference is two characters, and what follows is the pool of names: a name taken on .com.uz may still be free on co.uz. If you want a short address, the «co» form saves you a notch.
-
The regulation sets no general document requirement. What is asked for is the standard application form, filled in completely and accurately; organisations add bank details and administrative, technical and billing contacts. The registrar keeps the right to seek confirmation that the information given is genuine, but that is not a paperwork condition applied up front. The rule is the same across the whole .uz tree.
-
According to the registry's own information page, the term of registration and re-registration runs from one year to ten years. The regulation leaves the term to the contract between the registrar and the domain administrator and fixes only the floor: it may not be less than one year. In a zone where short names attract heavy demand, a longer term is the simplest way to keep hold of the name.
-
After registration ends the name stays with its current administrator for only 7 working days, and once that additional period closes it becomes available to other applicants. The rule covers the whole .uz tree. Because short, memorable names are the most sought-after, the exposure is more concrete here: a .co.uz name you let go passing to someone else within a few working days is a realistic prospect. Plan the renewal at least two weeks before expiry.
-
The regulation points first to negotiation; a dispute that cannot be settled that way goes to court. The procedure is the same across the .uz tree, and the zone has no UDRP-style arbitration. In practice a trade mark claim proceeds through the judicial route rather than an expedited administrative one. If your mark matters in both zones, registering the name on the co.uz and com.uz sides alike is a more effective safeguard than objecting later.
