Venezuela is a country in South America. The official name is Spanish República Bolivariana de Venezuela and means the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. It is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea to the north, Guyana to the east, Brazil to the south and Colombia to the west. Area: 912.050 km2. Its capital is Caracas.
The Venezuelan economy depends on petroleum products. Oil industry, iron mining, steel production and other basic industries are under the control of the government. Venezuela exports very few agricultural products. Imports food and timber. Since the production of consumables is very expensive, it has a limited domestic market. As regards manufacturing, it is mainly done in the food, tobacco, textile, paper and plastics industries. Half of the construction sector is in the hands of the private sector. The main plants grown are coffee, rice, fruits and sugar.
