.co.am Domain: Armenia's Short Third-Level Namespace
.co.am is one of the third-level zones under .am, the country code extension of Armenia. The registry is the same one that runs .am: the «Internet Society» non-governmental organisation in Yerevan, with technical operation carried out by the Armenia Network Information Centre it authorises. The registration policy names .co.am as one of six third-level zones, alongside .com.am, .org.am, .net.am and .commune.am; it is not a separate registry or a top-level extension of its own.
The eligibility rule matches the second level and is open to applicants abroad: the only test for a holder is being competent to conclude a civil law contract, with no Armenian company or address required. The policy assigns the zone no intended use either. The shortest registrable name is two characters, one-character names are reserved for the registry, and armenia.co.am and armenian.co.am are held for state bodies defined in the Constitution.
What sets this zone apart is how empty it is: on 13 August 2026 all eight common candidate names we queried in the registry WHOIS came back unregistered, while the same method found registered names in the sibling zones. The local requirement belongs to the registrar alone, which must be a legal entity registered in Armenia. The same rule applies to the second-level .am zone.

Largely yes. On 13 August 2026 we queried eight common candidate names in the registry WHOIS — everyday words such as shop, mail, music and game — and all eight came back unregistered. The same method did find registered names in the sibling zones, so the result is a genuine availability measurement rather than a query error. The server's health was confirmed by three distinct response classes: a registered name returns a full record, a free name «no match», and a one-character name «reserved».

The measurement of 13 August 2026 calls for a warning. Third-level names that showed as active in the registry WHOIS and had name servers set were not published as delegations in the .am zone: all four authoritative servers for .am answered «no such name» for them. A second-level control name queried on the same servers was answered correctly, so the servers themselves were healthy. Once your registration completes, test that the address really resolves; if it does not, ask your registrar to have it published in the zone.

A 45-day additional period runs after the term ends, and renewal is possible within it. The name stops working on day one of that period, though: the policy states that it is no longer translated into an IP address. In the final 15 days the WHOIS record disappears as well. If you renew during the additional period, the new term counts from its first day; if you do not, the name is deleted from the register and released for registration again.

The UDRP does not apply. Clause 44 of the registration policy sends every dispute to arbitration at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Armenia; the seat is Yerevan, the language is Armenian, and the award is final and binding. Armenian law governs. A holder of a trade mark, trade name, appellation of origin or geographical indication may seek cancellation on the basis of a preferential right, and the name is cancelled if the registrant offers no equivalent argument.
