.com.am Domain: Armenia's Third-Level Namespace
.com.am is one of the third-level zones under .am, the country code extension of Armenia. The registry is the same one that runs .am: the «Internet Society» non-governmental organisation in Yerevan, with technical operation carried out by the Armenia Network Information Centre it authorises. The zone is not a separate registry or a top-level extension of its own — the registration policy names .com.am as one of six third-level zones, alongside .co.am, .org.am, .net.am and .commune.am.
Despite what the label suggests, there is no requirement to use the name commercially. The policy assigns no purpose to any third-level zone and asks the holder for neither a company registration nor a link to Armenia; the only test is being competent to conclude a civil law contract. Two groups of names are closed off, however: armenia.com.am and armenian.com.am are reserved for state bodies defined in the Constitution, and one-character names are reserved for the registry. The shortest registrable name is two characters.
The post-expiry chain matches the second level: a 45-day additional period runs, the name stops working on its first day, and the name is deleted if the period runs out. Disputes go to arbitration at the Armenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry rather than to the UDRP. If you want a shorter, single-part address, the second-level .am zone is in heavier use. A .com.am address at this stage has not been taken yet, and it goes to whoever registers first. Check the name you have in mind — if it is free, it can be yours within minutes.
Domain Is Active (Active Period)
Once registration is complete the domain is yours for the term you chose. You can renew at any point before expiry to keep it uninterrupted, or switch on auto-renewal so you never have to watch the date.
Redemption Period (Redemption Period)
The domain is not released the moment it expires — during this window it is still yours and can be recovered. Some extensions charge an extra restore fee at this stage, so renewing before expiry is always the cheaper route.
Pending Delete Period (Pending Delete Period)
If the redemption window is missed too, the domain enters the final stage and waits to be deleted. Renewal and recovery are no longer possible here; when the period ends the registration is removed for good.
Domain Is Available Again

No. The registration policy sets one test for the holder: being competent to conclude a civil law contract. No Armenian company, representative or address is required, and the clause listing grounds for refusal says nothing about local presence. The local requirement belongs to the registrar alone, which must be a legal entity registered in Armenia. The same rule applies to the second-level .am zone.

Our measurement on 13 August 2026 calls for a warning. Third-level names that showed as active in the registry WHOIS and had name servers set were not published as delegations in the .am zone: all four authoritative servers for .am answered «no such name» for them. A second-level control name queried on the same servers was answered correctly, so the servers themselves were healthy. Once your registration completes, test that the address really resolves; if it does not, ask your registrar to have it published in the zone.

A 45-day additional period runs after the term ends, and renewal is possible within it. The name stops working on day one of that period, though: the policy states that it is no longer translated into an IP address. In the final 15 days the WHOIS record disappears as well. If you renew during the additional period, the new term counts from its first day; if you do not, the name is deleted from the register and released for registration again.

The registry, the policy text, the pricing logic and the dispute route are identical. The difference is the level: .am sits at the second level and .com.am at the third, so the address carries one part more. The weight of use also sits at the second level — the registry's accredited registrar directory lists accreditation only for .am and the Armenian-script .հայ. If you want a short, single-part address, it makes sense to look at .am first.

The UDRP does not apply. Clause 44 of the registration policy sends every dispute to arbitration at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Armenia; the seat is Yerevan, the language is Armenian, and the award is final and binding. Armenian law governs. A holder of a trade mark, trade name, appellation of origin or geographical indication may seek cancellation on the basis of a preferential right, and the name is cancelled if the registrant offers no equivalent argument.
