No. The registration policy sets a single test for the holder: being a person competent to conclude a civil law contract. You are not asked to incorporate in Armenia, appoint a representative or keep an address there, and the clause listing grounds for refusal contains nothing about local presence. The local requirement falls on the intermediary instead — a registrar must be a legal entity registered in Armenia. The registry's own statistics bear this out: on 13 August 2026 roughly 37 per cent of registered names were held from outside Armenia.

A 45-day additional period runs after the term ends, and you can renew within it. The name stops working on day one of that period, however: the policy states that it is no longer translated into an IP address, so your site and email will not open. In the final 15 days the WHOIS record disappears as well. If you renew during the additional period, the new term is counted from its first day. Once the period runs out, the name is deleted from the register and released for registration.

Two different operations should not be confused. A change of registrar runs on a transfer code, and the registry provides its own service for generating and resetting that password. A change of holder is not recorded as a transfer at all but as a «registration on the initiative of the holder», and it needs three things: the current holder's signed application, the incoming party's signed application and termination of the previous service contract. The registration policy places one-character second-level names on the list reserved for the registry's own needs, and single-letter names that were in other hands before the policy move onto that same list the moment they become free. Measurement confirms the picture: a few single-letter names are still registered and active with their earlier holders, while two-character names register normally. The upper limit is 63 characters; a name may not begin with a hyphen or contain two consecutive hyphens.
