WHAT IS A .CREDITCARD DOMAIN

.creditcard Domains: A Narrow Ending for Card Products

.creditcard entered the root zone on 24 April 2014, and the IANA record names Binky Moon, LLC as the sponsoring organisation. No eligibility condition has been verified for registration. The nTLDstats page accessed on 11 August 2026 shows 1,961 names in the zone, of which 1,498 appear in the zone file, making this one of the smallest zones in this group.

This name carries a single meaning and very little stretch: the card. The rule follows from that — if you compare cards, guide people through applications, run a points or miles programme, or present a card product of your own, the address gains strength by narrowing the subject. Where your scope will later grow into lending, deposits or insurance, pick a broader root and weigh the options through a domain name search.

The ending proves nothing to a visitor

Registration in this zone requires no card-issuing permission, banking licence or payment-institution registration, because the registry runs no such check. The address therefore says nothing about whether its owner may issue a card. As a visitor, verify the firm you are applying to through the regulator's own register rather than through the address, and enter card numbers only in your own bank's channels. As a publisher, state plainly on the page which institution you work with and how you earn.

.creditcard Domain Lifecycle

Active registration term 1 - 10 years You choose it at registration
Renewal window 20 days After expiry, with a late renewal fee
Redemption period 30 days After deletion, with a restore fee
Last day to act Day 50 After this day there is no way back

What happens day by day after it expires

Day 0 is the domain's expiry date

In short: your .creditcard domain is put on Client Hold on its expiry date, so the site and e-mail stop that same day. You can still renew during the first 20 days, but from this point a late renewal fee is added on top of the renewal price. On day 20 the registration is deleted and until day 50 only a paid restore brings it back. Nothing at all can be done in the 5 days that follow, and on day 55 the name is open to anyone. There is exactly one way never to enter this chain: keep auto-renewal on.

What happens day by day after it expires Lifecycle diagram for .creditcard, left to right: the name starts out available; once registered, the site and e-mail work; day 0 is the expiry date and the domain goes on Client Hold; for the first 20 days renewal at the normal price stays open; on day 20 the registration is deleted and a 30-day redemption period begins; on day 50 redemption closes and a 5-day pending delete window starts; on day 55 the name is open to anyone again. The site and e-mail stay down from day 0 through day 55. Domain Is Available (Available)

Open-ended

A .creditcard address at this stage has not been taken yet, and it goes to whoever registers first. Check the name you have in mind — if it is free, it can be yours within minutes.

Domain Is Active (Active Period)

1 - 10 years

Once registration is complete, the domain is registered to you for the term you selected. You can renew at any point before it expires to keep it active, or switch on auto-renewal so you never have to watch the date.

Renewal Window (Client Hold)

Day 0 – 20

On its expiry date your .creditcard domain is put on Client Hold: the site and e-mail go down that day, but the registration is still yours. A single renewal within these first 20 days brings everything back exactly as it was — nothing is lost. The only difference is that a $30.72 late renewal fee is now added to the renewal price; renewing before the expiry date avoids that fee entirely.

Redemption Period (Redemption / RGP)

Day 20 – 50

On day 20 the registration is deleted and the 30-day redemption period that ICANN requires of every gTLD registry begins. The name is not released to anyone during this time; only you can take it back, by paying the restore fee, until day 50. That fee is far higher than a renewal — renewing on time is always the cheaper route.

Pending Delete (Pending Delete)

Day 50 – 55

Once the redemption window closes too, the domain enters its final 5 days and there is no way back. Neither renewal nor restore works here; nobody — your registrar included — can return the name to you. The registry uses this window as the last hold before the name goes back into the pool.

Open to Anyone Again (Released)

After day 55

On day 55 the name .creditcard returns to the pool and anyone can register it. Sought-after names are often gone within seconds, and there is no guaranteed way to get one back. Yet staying out of this timeline is entirely in your hands: leave auto-renewal on and the expiry date will never catch you off guard.

The timeline above is the schedule Atak Domain applies and publishes. The ICANN chart you will find elsewhere shows a renewal window of up to 45 days after expiry; ICANN's policy on expired registrations (section 2.2.1) lets registrars delete an expired domain at any time, provided they disclose their policy in advance. We apply that window as 20 days and publish it here in plain sight. Full text of the policy: ICANN Expired Registration Recovery Policy

Frequently Asked Questions About .creditcard Domains

The questions people actually ask before registering — answered plainly.

  • You can — registration does not require you to be a bank or a payment institution.

Binky Moon, LLC, the sponsoring organisation, verifies no licence of any kind. That keeps the door open for comparison publishing and personal finance writing, though it remains your responsibility not to let the address suggest you issue cards. Check a name with a domain name search.

  • It should not — card data belongs only in the authorised institution's own channel.

Any system taking a card number, expiry date and security code falls under payment card data security standards, and that burden is heavy. If you publish guidance, send the application on to the institution's own page instead. To keep your own site encrypted, see the SSL certificate page.

  • Because the name is pinned to one meaning, its range of use is naturally narrow.

The nTLDstats page accessed on 11 August 2026 shows 1,961 registrations, of which 1,498 are published. The length of the word also makes the address unwieldy. The upside is straightforward: short, memorable roots are still free and competition is low.

  • .creditcard covers the payment card alone, while .cards covers cards of every kind.

.cards evokes anything from greetings cards and playing cards to loyalty schemes and business cards, and the root has to do the disambiguating. .creditcard leaves no such ambiguity; the address settles the subject on its own. For a broader project, see the .cards domain page.

  • The annual fee, the interest rate, minimum payment rules, points conditions and how to cancel.

The item most often left out of card comparisons is the rate that applies once a payment is late, and making it visible genuinely protects the reader. If your income comes from referral partnerships, say so on the page. To keep the publication current, note when the terms were last checked.

  • Start by getting the authorisation code from your current registrar.

Addresses in this zone usually belong to editorial publications that depend on search traffic, so plan the move for a quieter period. The lock has to be open and sixty days must have passed since registration. Check the record with whois search, then go to the domain transfer page.
