Enter the Morocco market with a .MA Domain

Yes, but on one condition. The rules state expressly that the holder may be established either in Morocco or abroad; in the same breath they require every holder to be represented by a duly mandated natural person established in Morocco acting as administrative contact. A holder who is an individual living in Morocco may fill that role themselves; a company or person applying from Türkiye will need a representative in Morocco. The representative holds no right over the name, yet every official communication from ANRT reaches them, including formal notices, blocks and deletions, and the holder may not plead ignorance of those exchanges. Keeping the representative's postal and email addresses working is therefore your responsibility.

Five years at most. The term clause states that a domain name may be registered for a period of up to five years, and that the holder may renew at any moment during that period on the same conditions. The renewal clause closes the ceiling a second time with an even firmer sentence: a domain name may not hold a validity period exceeding five years. In practice that rules out stacking renewals to build a ten-year .ma registration; the time remaining on your name always stays under the five-year cap. Terms are taken in whole years, with no fractional periods. Registry data shows most holders nonetheless register one year at a time.

Two characters. The rules list the names that cannot be registered as a closed set, and that set contains only single-character names, names longer than 63 characters, names starting or ending with a hyphen, and names containing a space; two characters are not forbidden. The same clause adds that two-character names may carry a specific tariff, so the registry sells them deliberately and prices them separately. Measurement confirms it: two-letter .ma names are registered and in active use, and some were created only in recent years. Single-character queries are not reported as available but flagged by the registry system as impossible to register. A hyphen may not sit in the third or fourth position.

The chain differs from generic extensions. Your provider must warn you at least thirty days before expiry. On the expiry date the name enters a thirty-day grace period during which it is held in a frozen state; you may renew or terminate it in that window. What follows surprises most people: at the end of the grace period the name is not released, it is automatically renewed for a further year and invoiced under the rules. The name only leaves that cycle if you or your provider file a termination. A terminated name is then blocked for up to thirty days, during which you may re-register it, and is deleted afterwards.

Yes. The name composition clause lists the permitted letters and spells out the French accented characters one by one: à, â, ç, è, é, ê, ë, î, ï, ô, ù, û, ü and ÿ. A name containing accented letters enters the zone converted at registry level into its punycode equivalent beginning with xn--. This support rests on its own regulatory decision and has been in force for years; measurement confirmed that an accented .ma name is actually registered and live. One important caveat: this is not a bundle mechanism, so taking the unaccented spelling does not hand you the accented one. The registry advises registering both spellings to protect a brand.

Both sit with the same authority under the same regulatory decision; the difference is the level and the purpose label. .ma is registered directly at the second level and that is the route people actually take, since registry data shows the great majority of names sit directly under .ma. .co.ma is a third-level space defined in the rules for commercial activity. A common misreading is to treat that label as a proof requirement, which it is not. Prior examination and supporting documents are demanded only for the academic, press and government spaces; .co.ma is absent from that list, so no trade register extract is needed.

By default yes, and the scope is broad. The rules enumerate the published fields one by one: the domain name, the holder's name (full name for individuals, company name for legal persons), the provider's name, the creation and expiry dates, the status of the name, the name, telephone and email of the administrative and technical contacts, and the name servers. By registering you are taken to have accepted that publication. The current decision did open one door: a holder may ask that the telephone number and email address concerning themselves and their administrative contact not be published. There are two separate operations, easily confused. For a change of provider you request the authorisation code from your current firm, which must supply it within two working days and lift any locks; if it does not, ANRT sends the code to you directly. The losing firm has two working days to object, and silence completes the transfer automatically, with your remaining term preserved intact. A change of holder is a different procedure altogether: a transfer form signed by both parties goes to ANRT, which decides within five working days, the operation is chargeable, and it resets the creation date of the name.
