Not in your own name. Article 5.1 of the Naming Policy opens registration only to natural persons residing, and legal persons established, in an EU member state or in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland; Turkey falls outside that area. Article 5.2 applies the same test to the administrative contact, so both the holder and the contact must qualify. With a European entity you can apply directly; without one, an eligible party has to occupy both roles, and the current price of that service is shown during ordering.

None at registration. Article 3.2 gives the reason: the French Post and Electronic Communications Code does not empower Afnic to check documents such as a trade register extract or a trademark receipt. The requirement is still real and the audit arrives later. If matters escalate to substantiation, your portfolio is suspended for up to 7 days, then blocked for up to 30, and deleted if no evidence follows. When substantiation starts at registration, what is suspended instead is publication of the name in the DNS — the site simply does not resolve.

It depends how it was deleted. Article 6.8 sets up two regimes. If the name was deleted at the registrar's request, a redemption period runs and the deletion is not final until it elapses; within that window the name can be reactivated with the same configuration. But where deletion follows a court order, a failed eligibility verification or a dispute decision, there is no redemption delay at all. Article 2.8 also makes renewal implied, so a name does not lapse on its own.

Three characters. Article 2.2 §21 names the five overseas extensions explicitly and does not permit registration of one- and two-character names: .pm, .re, .tf, .wf, .yt. Because such names are possible under mainland .fr, the carve-out is easy to miss. The ceiling is 63 characters; a name may not start or end with a hyphen, nor carry a double hyphen in third and fourth position (except xn-- encoded IDN forms). French accented characters, by contrast, are expressly permitted.

A change of registrar sits in Article 6.6: the holder freely picks a new registrar, which must ensure the change does not affect ownership. A change of holder sits in Article 6.4 and is heavier: registrars must obtain the consent of both parties before the operation, and in insolvency only the appointed administrator may give it. Not for natural persons. Article 8.4 provides that, at the CNIL's request and under the GDPR, names registered by a natural person are covered by default by restricted publication: no personal data is published in whois, only technical information remains, and you can still be reached by email without your details being disclosed.
