No. Despite the zone's name, the public domain regulation contains no provision tying registration to a line of business. All that is asked for is the name and a registrant contact object already created in the registry. The comparison is useful: in some countries a «net» zone requires a telecommunications licence, but in Ukraine no such condition exists. The only zone that demands a trademark certificate is second-level .ua.

The zone is administered by Coordinator LTD (ТОВ «ЧП Координатор») of Kharkiv. That is a meaningful difference from com.ua: com.ua is run by Hostmaster, the administrator of .UA itself, whereas net.ua belongs to a separate organisation that operates its own registry and publishes its own whois server at whois.eunic.net.ua. The rulebook is nevertheless shared — both zones follow the public domain regulation of 24 January 2020.

Article 2 of the public domain regulation fixes the ceiling explicitly at ten years. Article 7.3.1 states the default as well: if the application does not specify a term, the name is registered for one year, and the requested term may not exceed the ceiling. In a small zone a longer term also serves a practical purpose: because the renewal decision sits with your registrar, pushing the expiry date out reduces how much you have to track.

At expiry the name moves into the auto-renew grace period, where DNS service continues and deletion happens only on the registrar's own application. If the name is deleted, it leaves DNS and stays in redemptionPeriod for 30 days, recoverable only by a command from the registrar that deleted it. A five-day pendingDelete follows, at the end of which the name is removed from the registry for good.

Article 3.2 of the regulation: the name must begin and end with a letter or a digit, may contain only Latin letters, digits and the hyphen, and may not carry a hyphen in the third and fourth positions at once; its length runs from 1 to 63 characters. IDN names are governed separately by article 3.4: the Punycode form may not exceed 63 characters, the name begins with «xn--», and the Cyrillic form must include at least one distinctively Cyrillic character. The registry lists net.ua among the zones that support IDN.

Through UA-DRP, but it reached this zone late. According to Hostmaster's timeline the policy took effect at the second level of .ua on 19 March 2019 and in com.ua on 19 December 2019; in net.ua it began on 15 February 2025. The texts in force are the Policy of 15 February 2025 and the Rules of 1 November 2024, and cases are decided by administrative panels of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center. Article 7.3.2 of the regulation makes those decisions enforceable by the registrar.
