Enter the Niue market with a .NU Domain

Yes. The registration terms ask for no connection to Niue at all. Clause 3.1.1 sets one condition: the applicant must be identifiable in an official register. Clause 4.1.1 then allows a non-Swedish applicant to supply «foreign equivalent identification information», so a company applies with its trade register number and an individual with a national ID number. No address, representative or trustee service is required.

Because «nu» means «now» in Swedish and Danish, so the extension reads as a word rather than as a country code in that market. The operation follows the same line: the IANA record names Niue's IUSN Foundation as ccTLD manager, while the technical contact and registration services sit with Sweden's national registry, Internetstiftelsen. At the end of July 2026 the zone held 203,940 active names — many times the population of Niue itself.

None at the point of registration. Clause 4.1.1 asks for four items: full company name and contact person (or first and last name for an individual), corporate or personal identity number, telephone and e-mail. Verification comes afterwards — the registry cross-checks its data against external sources and may request electronic identification or an identity or registration document. If a deficiency is notified and not corrected, the name can be deactivated.

Under UDRP, ICANN's uniform domain-name dispute-resolution policy. Clause 7 of the registration terms is a single sentence: the holder is bound by the dispute policy the registry publishes for .nu. A complainant picks one of ICANN's approved providers, and that provider administers the case; The Swedish Internet Foundation takes no part in individual proceedings. The contrast with sibling zone .se matters: UDRP is trademark-based, whereas the .se procedure also recognises surnames, artist names and titles of works.

The chain is identical to .se. After the expiry date the name spends ten days in «expired» status, then sixty days «deactivated», and throughout those sixty days the existing holder can still renew. Once the period passes, the holder is deregistered and the name is held in quarantine by the registry until its release date. Release happens no earlier than 04:00 UTC, and the list of deactivated names is refreshed every night.

Yes. The registry publishes a separate IDN character table for .nu, and clause 3.2.1 of the terms ties the permitted character set to that table. Beyond a-z and 0-9 it covers Nordic and Western European letters such as å, ä, ö, ü and é. A name may contain between one and sixty-three characters. Because the table rather than Unicode at large is authoritative, confirm your preferred spelling before ordering.

Clause 5.1.7 places two duties on the losing registrar: release the authorisation code within five working days of your request, and charge nothing for the registrar change. If the code does not arrive in time, the registry may generate and pass it to you itself.
